A surge of cold weather will hit southeastern Australia this weekend, bringing low temperatures, icy winds, and wintry conditions across Tasmania, Victoria, NSW, SA, and the ACT. The cold snap will be driven by a strong polar air mass moving across the region on Saturday and Sunday, causing temperatures to plunge.

Tasmania will see the coldest weather, with snow forecast to reach elevations as low as 200 m above sea level. Hobart will only hit 11°C on Saturday, with blustery winds making it feel like 3°C. Snow, rain, and possible thunderstorms will sweep across the state, particularly in the west and south.

Victoria will also experience chilly conditions, with snow reaching around 700 to 800 m in the south and northeast. Melbourne will feel colder than 6°C at times over the weekend. NSW and the ACT will see snow at higher elevations, with cold winds making temperatures feel lower in Sydney and Canberra.

South Australia won’t experience as severe cold, but the southeast, including Mount Gambier, will feel notably chilly. Be prepared for hail, thunderstorms, and icy winds throughout the weekend.
