Afcon Qualifiers: Bafana Bafana Boss Hugo Broos Introduces Four Debutants for Upcoming Matches with Fresh Talent and Power Moves

Excitement is building as Bafana Bafana gears up for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers with a fresh squad, handpicked by head coach Hugo Broos. The squad announcement is especially noteworthy this time as Broos has introduced four debutants, adding a new energy to the team’s lineup.

South Africa’s journey to the next Afcon begins next week, and the team is set to showcase their talent and determination. They’ll kick off their qualifying campaign with a crucial match against Uganda on Friday, 6 September at Orlando Stadium. Following that, they’ll travel to Central East Africa for an encounter with South Sudan on Tuesday, 10 September at Juba Stadium.

Coach Hugo Broos, who guided Bafana Bafana to a commendable bronze finish in this year’s delayed Afcon, has opted to blend experience with new talent for this campaign. While the core of the squad remains intact, the introduction of fresh faces is sure to bring new dynamism to the team.

Among the notable changes, Sipho Chaine steps in to fill the void left by captain Ronwen Williams, who is sidelined with shoulder surgery. Debutants Fawaaz Basadien, Thalente Mbatha, and Rushwin Dortley (who made his first cap during the Cosafa Cup earlier this year) are all set to make their mark in these crucial matches.

Absent from the squad is Percy Tau, who is currently navigating transfer speculation away from Egyptian giants Al Ahly. Despite his absence, the squad remains strong with familiar names like Lyle Foster, Thapelo Morena, Grant Kekena, and the ever-reliable veteran Themba Zwane all returning.

Broos and his technical team will gather with the selected 23 players for a pre-match camp this Sunday and Monday to fine-tune their strategies and prepare for the challenges ahead.
