After a remarkable decade at Leeds United, former captain Liam Cooper is embarking on a new adventure with Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia. The 33-year-old defender, who became a free agent in June, has signed with the Sofia club, marking the end of an era at Elland Road.
Cooper’s tenure with Leeds United has been nothing short of exceptional. His leadership and dedication have left an indelible mark on the club and its fans.
In a heartfelt farewell posted on X (formerly Twitter), Cooper expressed his gratitude and pride in his accomplishments: “To the best in the land. After 10 years, seven as captain, it’s time to say goodbye. I leave the club, proud of what we have achieved together. I was never perfect, but throughout my time I tried to represent you and the club with dignity and modesty at all times.”
Leeds United’s Chief Executive Angus Kinnear praised Cooper, calling him “a warrior on the pitch and an ambassador off it.” His contributions both on and off the field have solidified his legacy as a beloved figure in the club’s history.
